Hotspot and Pareto analyser
Rank your stages by mass, then by what they actually cost, and see where the two lists disagree. That gap is usually where the money is.
Recovery is set per stage in the last column, because a stream
that goes to a feedlot and a stream that goes to a soup vegetable customer earn very different money.
A stage with no recovery is charged the disposal cost instead.
Ranked by mass
Ranked by what it costs
Recovery is not one number. A stream that goes to a feedlot at R240 a tonne
and a stream that goes to a soup vegetable customer at R2.10 a kilogram are nine times apart. Enter
your own per stage, and remember that food waste in a skip earns nothing however good the intention
was. The ranking moves when these move, which is the point of doing it properly.
Why the two lists differ. Conversion cost accumulates through the process, so
a kilogram lost at packing has had far more spent on it than a kilogram lost at intake. Rank by mass
and you will attack the biggest bin. Rank by value and you will attack the one that costs the most.
The second list is the one to take to a capital meeting.
