Is the Certificate of Acceptability the same in every city?
The regulation is national (R638 of 2018), so the requirements are the same everywhere. What changes is who issues it: metropolitan municipalities such as Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Cape Town, eThekwini, Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City and Mangaung run their own environmental health services, while in the rest of the country the district municipality provides municipal health services for its towns. Each city page names the issuing authority.
Do I need a different certificate for each city my business trades in?
No. Training certificates are personal and national. A Persons in Charge or Food Handlers certificate from ASC is valid at any premises in South Africa. The Certificate of Acceptability, on the other hand, is issued per premises by the municipality where the premises is.
Can ASC train on site outside the three branch cities?
Yes. On-site and in-house sessions are quoted for any town in South Africa and delivered through the nearest branch: Gqeberha (head office) for the Eastern Cape, Johannesburg for Gauteng and the northern and central provinces, and Cape Town for the Western and Northern Cape. Online training is available anywhere with a connection.
