Free Triangle Test Calculator with Exact p-Value

Sensory Analyser

Read a triangle test, duo-trio, tetrad or paired comparison the way lesson 2.8 teaches. Enter the test, the side, alpha, the number of assessors and the number correct, then your own reading. The analyser then gives the exact binomial p-value, the minimum number correct for significance at that panel size and alpha, and what the result does and does not show. Practice only. Nothing you type here is sent to ASC, and your last entry is kept on this device.

Advanced mode, for the Advanced course. Run a JAR penalty analysis from the size and mean liking of the too little and too much groups. Or read a triangle, duo-trio, tetrad or paired test for similarity, with the exact one-sided upper bound on pd at 1 minus beta judged against a pd maximum set in advance. The exact binomial difference reading and its power sit alongside. Enter your own figures and call first, then check. Practice only. Nothing you type here is sent to ASC, and your last entry is kept on this device.

This analyser is the sensory step, Module 2, of Intermediate Food Product Development (NPD), a 16 hour online course, R3 950.

Advanced mode is the sensory evidence step, Module 2, of Advanced Food Product Development (NPD), a 24 hour online course, R6 500.

Predict, then check. Decide whether the result is significant at your alpha and roughly where the p-value sits before the analyser shows its answer.

The lesson’s other examples

1. The study

Flagging groups that hold 20 percent or more of the panel is an industry convention, not a standard. Write the threshold you will use into the analysis plan before the data arrive.

2. The too little and too much groups

For each attribute, the number of consumers who said too little and too much, and the mean liking of each group. The just-about-right group is the rest of the panel.

3. Your figures first

Predict, then check. For at least one group, enter your JAR-group mean, mean drop and weighted penalty. Then set your priority order, 1 for the first fix, 2 for the next and so on, and leave groups you would not flag as not flagged.

The lesson’s other examples

1. The plan, fixed before testing

The question, the test, n, beta and the pd maximum are fixed, written and signed before the first set is served. Changing any of them after the result is in is choosing the answer.

Where this analyser fits

This analyser is the sensory step, Module 2, of Intermediate Food Product Development (NPD): Running Projects in a Food Factory, ASC’s 16 hour online course. In the course you choose the right sensory test for each project question, set the action standard before anyone tastes, and read the result without claiming more than it shows. You do it while taking a retailer’s plant-based range through the gates on a certified site. R3 950.

Where advanced mode fits

Advanced mode is the sensory evidence step of Advanced Food Product Development (NPD): Strategy, Reformulation and Global Regulatory Routes, ASC’s 24 hour online course for NPD and technical leads. In the course you rank a portfolio and kill what fails a gate, build the JAR and similarity evidence, and run a mixture design to a predicted optimum. Then you work the levy and the SA and EU claims, and defend a launch dossier to a board on your own case variant. R6 500.
