Shelf and date-code walk
Five bays, 30 items, one Friday morning at Khanya Trade Cash & Carry. Flag every date, pack, cabinet and storage problem, then read the rule behind each flag. Your walk stays on this device; nothing is sent anywhere.
This free practice tool is for new quality controllers, store food safety champions, cash & carry receiving staff and anyone who walks a shelf with a pen and a probe. It uses South African rules: the date-mark rules in the labelling regulations (R146 of 2010), the temperature, can and storage rules in the hygiene regulations (R638 of 2018), SANS 10156 cabinet practice, and one example company policy (Khanya Fresh, a fictional retailer).
How to use this tool
- Set up. Read the scenario and the Khanya policy. Choose the case walk (30 items) or your own walk (your kitchen, store or DC). Timed mode gives you 15 minutes for the whole walk.
- Walk the bays. Open a bay, look at each item card, then tap Looks fine or Flag a problem and tick every problem you see. One item can have more than one flag.
- Check the bay. The tool shows what you found, what you missed and any false flags, with the rule, its layer (law, standard or company rule) and the action for each.
- Results and report. Choose the 3 actions you would take first, then download the shelf-check report as a spreadsheet or print it.
Limits and rules are the ones taught in FS60-0601. Khanya’s rules are an example company policy, not law. Check your own company’s policy before you use a number at work.

- Fresh departments, labels, counter allergen questions, recalls and EHP visits
