GLOBALG.A.P. IFA self-assessment checklist

Registration and the system

• The producer and every production site and product are registered with the certification body under the correct option, and the GLOBALG.A.P. Number is current.
• A complete self-assessment against the current IFA version 6 checklist (every principle and criterion for the scope) has been done in the last twelve months, is signed and dated, and every non-conformity has a corrective action.
• The self-assessment score has been calculated against the compliance rule: 100 percent of applicable Major Musts and at least 95 percent of applicable Minor Musts (version 6 has no Recommendation level).
• A site history and management record exists for every field, orchard, greenhouse and packhouse, with a risk assessment for new sites covering prior use, soil, water, adjacent land and flooding.
• Records are kept for at least two years, or longer where a customer requires it.
• For a first certification audit, records cover at least the three months before the audit or the period since registration, whichever is longer, and they are available on the day.

Workers, inputs and the crop

• A workers' health, safety and welfare risk assessment is written, training is recorded, first aid and hygiene facilities are provided, and the responsible person for workers' welfare is named.
• Plant protection products are chosen from the registered list for the crop and the destination market, and each application is recorded with product, dose, date, operator, justification and pre-harvest interval.
• Plant protection products are stored in a locked, ventilated, bunded store with a current inventory.
• Maximum residue level compliance is demonstrated: a residue monitoring plan, laboratory analyses on file, and the destination market's limits checked.
• Fertilisers and soil improvers are recorded (product, rate, date, operator, field), stored apart from plant protection products, and organic inputs are risk-assessed for microbial contamination.
• Water for irrigation, washing and plant protection is risk-assessed, tested at a frequency set by the assessment, and the results meet the limits for the use.
• Propagation material, variety and rootstock records are kept, and any genetically modified material is handled as the standard and the law require.

Harvest, packhouse and traceability

• A hygiene risk assessment covers harvest and post-harvest handling, with hygiene procedures, trained workers, hand-wash facilities and clean containers and vehicles.
• Post-harvest treatments, washes and waxes are recorded and permitted for the crop and the market, and wash water quality is controlled.
• The packhouse meets the food safety requirements for the scope: pest control, glass and hard plastic, cleaning, storage temperatures, foreign body control and allergen control where it applies.
• Every lot is traceable from the field to the customer and back, and product from certified and non-certified sites is segregated and labelled.
• A traceability exercise and a recall test have been done in the last twelve months.
• Where certified product is bought, sold or repacked by another legal entity, that entity holds a Chain of Custody certificate, and the GLOBALG.A.P. Number appears on the trade documents as the rules require.
• Complaints, non-conformances and corrective actions are recorded and closed, and an internal audit of the system (by a trained person) is on file.
