Chemical Safety for Housekeeping and Laundry

An interactive, self-paced online course for housekeeping and laundry teams, based on the Regulations for Hazardous Chemical Agents, 2021 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Learners decode hazard pictograms and safety data sheets, inspect a chemical store, sort safe and unsafe practices, watch animated scenarios and answer picture-based quizzes.

Who it is for

Housekeepers, room attendants, laundry staff, cleaners and their supervisors in guesthouses, lodges, hotels and B&Bs.

What the course covers

• Module 1 · Know your chemicals: What the law expects, what the hazard pictograms mean, and how to find what you need on a label and a safety data sheet.
• Module 2 · Using chemicals safely: Dilute correctly, never mix products, ventilate, wear the right PPE and set up your trolley safely.
• Module 3 · Storage, spills and waste: Store chemicals safely, deal with spills quickly and correctly, and dispose of chemical waste without harming people or drains.
• Module 4 · Exposure, first aid and records: How chemicals get into the body, what symptoms to report, first aid, and the records your employer must keep.

How it works

4 interactive modules of 40 to 40 minutes each, about 2 hours 40 minutes in total. Each module is followed by a picture-based quiz (70% to pass). A 20-question final assessment (80% to pass) closes the course and unlocks a QR-verified ASC certificate of achievement.

The final assessment is proctored. You need a device with a working camera and microphone, and a quiet place to write it. Copying and pasting are blocked, and the recording is reviewed before your certificate is released.

This is a non-accredited awareness course with a QR-verified ASC certificate of achievement. It supports, but does not replace, your employer’s chemical risk assessment and site-specific training.
