Which courses does a QA manager need?
A first FSSC 22000 certificate needs 11 courses and 152 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Introduction to FSSC 22000, Implementation of FSSC 22000 Version 7 for Food Manufacturing, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R26 625 bought one by one.
A site already certified to FSSC 22000 needs 10 courses and 127 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Transition to FSSC 22000 Version 7 in place of the two new-site courses, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R20 825 bought one by one.
A BRCGS Food site needs 11 courses and 151 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Introduction to BRCGS for Food Safety, Implementation of BRCGS Issue 9 for Food Manufacturing, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R26 070 bought one by one.
An ISO 22000 site needs 11 courses and 142 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Introduction to ISO 22000, Implementation of ISO 22000:2018, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R24 224 bought one by one.
In what order should QA managers take these courses, and why?
The QA manager is accountable for certification, so the path covers the whole food safety management system rather than one part: prerequisite programmes and HACCP to advanced level, the scheme from introduction to implementation (FSSC 22000 by default, including the additional requirements that separate it from ISO 22000, or the BRCGS Food Issue 9 or ISO 22000:2018 courses in its place), internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and food defence, food safety and quality culture (a GFSI requirement since 2020 that auditors now audit), allergen management, and labelling law and claims under R146. Each course is self-paced and can be taken between audits, in the order a certification body audits a site. For a new FSSC 22000 site that is 11 courses and 152 hours.
How long does the QA manager path take, and what does it cost?
The 11 core courses take about 152 hours of self-paced study and cost R26 625 bought one by one. At 5 hours a week that is about 31 weeks, on a phone or a laptop.
That is about R2 420 a course. Set it against what it protects: a failed audit, a lost customer or a product recall costs a business far more than any course on this page.
Hours and prices are read from each course page. Last checked 11 October 2026.

Questions QA managers ask before they enrol
What is the path for FSSC 22000, already certified?
A site already certified to FSSC 22000 needs 10 courses and 127 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Transition to FSSC 22000 Version 7 in place of the two new-site courses, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R20 825 bought one by one.
What is the path for BRCGS Food?
A BRCGS Food site needs 11 courses and 151 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Introduction to BRCGS for Food Safety, Implementation of BRCGS Issue 9 for Food Manufacturing, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R26 070 bought one by one.
What is the path for ISO 22000?
An ISO 22000 site needs 11 courses and 142 hours: GMP implementation, HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams, Advanced HACCP System Implementation, Introduction to ISO 22000, Implementation of ISO 22000:2018, then internal and supplier auditing, root cause analysis, food fraud and defence, culture, allergen management and labelling claims. R24 224 bought one by one.
Which FSSC 22000 course do I need if my site is already certified?
Transition to FSSC 22000 Version 7, 8 hours and R1 450. It covers what changed in Version 7 for a site that already holds a certificate, so you do not repeat Introduction to FSSC 22000 (11 hours) and Implementation of FSSC 22000 Version 7 for Food Manufacturing (22 hours), which are written for a site certifying for the first time. Pick FSSC 22000, already certified on this page and the path comes to 127 hours instead of 152.
Does a QA manager need Advanced HACCP for BRCGS Issue 9?
BRCGS Food Issue 9 does not name a course, but it expects the HACCP team to show that critical limits are validated and the plan verified, and the QA manager answers for that at the audit. Advanced HACCP System Implementation, 24 hours and R3 950, is where validation and verification are done on real process flows. HACCP for Supervisors and HACCP Teams on its own gets the plan written; the advanced course gets it defended.
How many hours a week does the QA manager path take?
As many as you choose. Every course is self-paced with lifetime access, so a QA manager can take them between audits. The full FSSC 22000 path is 11 courses and 152 hours. The BRCGS Food path is 151 hours and the ISO 22000 path 142. Each course ends in an assessment with a 70% pass mark and three attempts. Use the hours-a-week planner on this page for a finish date.
