ASC Food Safety Training trains franchise teams for KFC, Jack’s Bagels and the Spur Corporation family of restaurants throughout Southern Africa, from the food handlers on the line to the person in charge of each store. Franchise programmes combine R638-based content, live virtual or self-paced delivery, an assessment marked on the platform, a QR-verified certificate for every learner and a group dashboard for area managers. The KFC programmes alone hold 4.96 out of 5 from 1 824 delegate reviews and 4 700+ enrolments.
Who we train
Trusted by KFC, Jack’s Bagels and the Spur Corporation group
ASC trains franchise teams for KFC, Jack’s Bagels and the Spur Corporation family of restaurants throughout Southern Africa, from food handlers in the kitchen to the persons in charge of each store.

Environmental Health Practitioners train with ASC. The regulators who inspect food premises and issue Certificates of Acceptability come to ASC for their own food safety training.
KFC · Jack’s Bagels · Spur Corporation: Spur Steak Ranches, Panarottis, John Dory's, RocoMamas, The Hussar Grill, Casa Bella, Doppio Zero, Nikos Coalgrill Greek, Modern Tailors, Piza e Vino · Environmental Health Practitioners, the regulators who inspect food premises
A franchise is only as safe as its weakest store. The brand standard is written once at head office, but it is delivered by hundreds of people on different shifts, in different towns, many of them in their first job. When an environmental health practitioner walks into one store, the whole brand is being inspected. That is why franchise groups do not buy food safety training on price alone. They buy consistency, evidence and a partner who can train a new store team next week without a three-month lead time.
Which restaurant brands does ASC train?
ASC trains teams for:
- KFC franchise stores, through dedicated persons in charge and food handler programmes
- Jack’s Bagels
- The Spur Corporation group: Spur Steak Ranches, Panarottis, John Dory’s, RocoMamas, The Hussar Grill, Casa Bella, Doppio Zero, Nikos Coalgrill Greek, Modern Tailors and Piza e Vino
ASC also trains Environmental Health Practitioners, the regulators who inspect food premises and issue Certificates of Acceptability. Franchise QA teams like that: the course their store managers take is the one the inspector has taken too.
Alongside the franchise groups, ASC trains manufacturers, retailers, caterers, hotels and thousands of individual owners and food handlers. Every one of them sits on the same platform, uses the same verification system and is held to the same assessment standard.
What do franchise groups need from a food safety training provider?
From the conversations we have with franchise QA, operations and HR teams, the list is short and non-negotiable:
- The same training in every store. One course, one assessment standard, one certificate format, whether the store is in Sandton, Mthatha or George.
- Proof that holds up in an inspection. A certificate with a verification record, not an editable PDF, and an assessment that shows who was tested.
- Speed. New store openings, staff turnover and renewal dates do not wait for a classroom booking.
- Visibility for area managers. Who has trained, who has passed, who is due, by store and by region.
- One invoice and one contact. Not forty franchisees each paying a different supplier.
How ASC delivers a franchise programme
Every franchise programme is built around the brand’s operating model, but most follow the same four steps.
1. Register learners before the training day
Learners register on the ASC platform with their own email address and the name exactly as it appears on their ID, because that name goes on the certificate. Group managers get a single page of instructions they can share with every store.
2. Train live, or let learners work at their own pace
For KFC, persons in charge training runs as four-hour, instructor-led live virtual sessions, morning or afternoon, so a store can release a manager for half a shift. Other groups prefer the self-paced Persons in Charge and Food Handlers courses, which learners complete on a phone in short lessons. A delegate on the Spur programme put it this way: “Doing it online at my own pace while working full time gave the opportunity to implement and learn in real life the application of what I was learning.”
3. Assess on the platform
Learners write a timed, randomised assessment on the platform, with a limited number of attempts and reassessment sessions for anyone who needs them. The result, the attempt log and the date are recorded against the learner.
4. Certify, group and report
Every learner who passes downloads a QR-verified certificate. ASC allocates learners to their store or region, and area managers see progress and certificates on the manager dashboard. When an inspector asks for training records, the store prints the completion report or scans the certificate.
What franchise delegates say
Every delegate is asked to review the course when they finish it, and the reviews publish as written. A few from the franchise programmes:
“Great detailed session and very educational for food handling stores. Lovely session indeed.”
Tyson M. · Persons in Charge programme, KFC
“Great course and learned a lot and definitely very insightful”
Wiaan D. · Persons in Charge programme, KFC
“Doing it online at my own pace while working full time gave the opportunity to implement and learn in real life the application of what I was learning.”
Reinhardt J. · Persons in Charge programme, Spur
The Spur Corporation programme is rated 4.97 out of 5 from 30 reviews and the KFC programmes 4.96 out of 5 from 1 824 reviews. Read them all, including the critical ones, on the delegate reviews page.

Running a franchise or a restaurant group? Start here
You do not need to be a national brand to train like one. Owners of two or three stores use the same platform, the same courses and the same dashboard. Tell us how many people, which roles and which towns, and we will propose a programme, a per-learner price and a start date. Read the buyer’s guide to training every branch for the full process, or see the ten checks to run on any provider.
